2) Sustainability Illustrated
Sustainability Illustrated is offering free education concerning important topics such as Sustainability Awareness and Common Concepts. These free videos range from 4 to 7 minutes!
3) Abeego
Plastic wrapping is the key to convenience in our kitchens. Just think about it: leftover cold cuts, unused chunks of cheese, sliced fruits and veggies, and anything else we keep in a bowl in the fridge for later- we cover it all in plastic! For many of us this eco-“unfriendly” habit is unconscious, but there is a start-up from the West challenging this norm by trying to rid our kitchens of plastic wrappers.
A married couple in Victoria, British-Columbia has taken on the challenge of innovating an all natural food wrapper and succeeded. In 2008, Abeego’s sustainability story began with its new product line that is reforming our daily use of plastic.

4) Kuterra
On Northern Vancouver Island, Namgis First Nation have started one of the most innovative green initiatives within the seafood industry- an inland aquaculture fish farm called KUTERRA. KUTERRA comes from the Namgis word KUTALA, meaning salmon and TERRA meaning land. KUTERRA, is owned and operated on the land of the Namgis First Nation.
This business approach is the first land-based aquaculture system in Canada to grow Atlantic salmon on a commercial scale.

Nature’s Path Organic Foods is a well known family-business that is passionate about organic farming and sustainable practices.
7) MineSense™ Technologies
MineSense™ Technologies is a technology and marketing company with a passion for enhancing the sustainable practices of the mining industry by improving the ore recovery process.

8) Big Wheel Burger
Big Wheel Burger‘s menu consist of hormone-free Angus beef, and locally sourced ingredients. They’ve installed ENERGY STAR appliances and hand dryers that use 80% less energy. Even better, they choose not to sell bottled water!
9) Mountain Equipment Co-op
Mountain Equipment Co-op is a business that has operated with integrity and showed respect for each other and the environment for over 40 years. Accountability, Fair Trade, Sustainable materials, Reduce Waste, Reduce Water Use, you name it, they are on top of it!
10) Renewable Cities
Renewable Cities is a global program of SFU Centre for Dialogue, Vancouver, Canada. Their mission is to support cities through the transition to 100% renewable energy and increased energy efficiency.
11) The Choi Project
The Choi Project (created by the hua foundation); aims to put healthy, local, real food back on the Chinese dinner table. They work with growers, independent green grocers, and traditional style restaurants to highlight, increase the usage of, and create more access to local & sustainable food options that are also culturally relevant.
12) Zero Waste Market
Zero Waste Market is one of Canada’s first grocery store offering fresh, local, organic, and ethically sourced produce and package-free goods.
13) Skipper Otto’s Community Supported Fishery (CSF)
Skipper Otto‘s Community Supported Fishery (CSF) creates a direct connection between local fishermen and consumers with the joint goal of protecting ocean resources and improving our local food system. CSF members buy in at the beginning of the season and receive a share of premium, wild, local, and sustainably caught seafood.
Members have boat-to-fork transparency, knowing how, when, where and who caught their fish. The CSF has now grown to support 30 fishermen and to offer halibut, tuna, spot prawns, and crab, as well as a large variety of salmon fillets and smoked/canned items. They also serve members across Canada from Vancouver to Toronto!
14) Sole Food Street Farms
Sole Food Street Farms transforms vacant urban land into street farms that grow artisan quality fruits and vegetables.
Their mission is to empower individuals with limited resources by providing jobs, agricultural training and inclusion in a supportive community of farmers and food lovers.
15) David Suzuki
The last sustainable initiative of our national campaign “150 Days of Sustainable Initiatives is dedicated to David Suzuki, founder of the David Suzuki Foundation, writer, scientist and advocate who has inspired so many of us to take part and participate towards a sustainable transition!
